Recently, we took a big step forward to making Whittington Hospital greener by installing a new power transformer as part of our 'Power Infrastructure Project', led by our trust抯 Development Lead , Nick Woellwarth, and Project Lead, Ahmed Hassan.
We marked the completion of this project phase 1 with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. Chief Financial Officer and Deputy CEO Terry Whittle and Chief Operating Officer Chin Okunuga, along with everyone who contributed to the project, joined in the celebration.
This project isn抰 just about powering the hospital梚t抯 about creating a cleaner, greener future for everyone. The new transformer will help improve the resilience of our power supply. And it will shift us away from relying on fossil gas fuel for heating once the full project is completed, allowing us to use modern electric heat pumps powered by green electricity.
This change will cut CO2 emissions by 4.5 tons a year. That抯 a big win for cleaner air around our hospital and in our neighbourhood.
The impact doesn抰 stop there. The new system will save our trust around 15,000 in electricity bills each year.
Plus, the project in its next phase, expected to be completed in January 2025, will triple the amount of power we can use at our hospital, allowing us to support projects like our fire mediation project, upgrading our ventilation systems, and transforming our Maternity and Neonatal services.
Back in 2022, the 九游体育 became the first health system to embed net zero into legislation, so we抮e proud to be supporting this goal, working towards making our trust greener.
